1. 7th grade social studies: Mr. Ziogas
This was 1968-1969.

Mr. Ziogas taught a good world geography course. He was Greek, smiled and had what I would call a Greek sense of humor. He was a coin-collector and later, after I did my coin collecting merit badge for Boy Scouts, my father started it as a hobby, and got to see and know Mr. Ziogas more. I remember seeing him in line at the bank one a few occasions. Yes, when there were long lines at the bank and some people went to the bank just to stand in line and talk to others in line.

From reading and studying military history, for a few years now, I know most of the world geography in places where there had been major wars. I filled in the rest.

2. Khyber pass
He mentioned the Khyber pass in Afghanistan and I did a cartoon drawing about it - using some of my knowledge of history and wars. Here it is.

Kyber Pass drawingIn the drawing, Alexander the Great was first, before the turks and the Mongols, on the way to India. Not sure if I got everything correct, but it was only 7th grade. I drew Alexander with chain mail as if he were a Middle Ages knight.

3. Drawing
At some point about this time, I think I draw this picture. The other side is a handout from this class, but I could have drawn it the next year when we were studying government.

Washington, DCThe drawing shows the Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the Capitol.
